University of Cumbria and Newton Rigg College

University of CumbriaThe University of Cumbria is strongly committed to the future of degree programmes offered at Newton Rigg and the partnership with Askham Bryan College will not only ensure a sustainable future for further education in the area but also provide an opportunity for planning significant investments in new facilities for higher education provision. The University will maintain access to its long term teaching and research sites at Newton Rigg and look to grow its current strong focus in forestry, conservation and land-use research.

Recognising the importance of these courses, the university is developing gateway campuses across the county, right in the heart of the Lake District. These specialist sites, coupled with highly experienced and qualified staff, mean our students receive the best possible opportunity to reach their full potential. Plans by Askham Bryan College include a £2.4m investment into the Newton Rigg site including the establishment of a joint rural research institute with the university.

- All existing undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the areas of forestry, conservation, policing, applied science and outdoor studies will continue.

- These courses have national significance for the University of Cumbria, are highly valued for their research and are seen as having a long term future within the institution.

- The university is looking to grow its current strong focus in forestry, conservation and land-use research.

Based on the doorstep of the Lake District, the University of Cumbria is the ideal location for access to forests and woodlands. The proximity of National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty guarantees access to a range of habitats, woodland ecosystems and world-class landscapes - in fact, Cumbria is our classroom!
